Want to grow glorious, lush and lively herbs and flowers spilling out and over your patio or garden containers? See how this can be done and discover in this workshop all the benefits and joy of container gardening.  Come and learn from Master Gardeners Shilpa Thanawala and Arete Nicholas.

A San Carlos-based Master Gardener and passionate home cook, Shilpa enjoys growing much of her own fresh produce.  Her space-efficient and chemical-free home garden is planted almost entirely with edibles and natives.  Though small, the garden features over 30 varieties of fruit trees, several types of cane fruits and berries, an extensive collection of herbs, asparagus, artichokes, and annual vegetable beds on a four-year rotation.  In the kitchen, Shilpa’s culinary style has long been defined by her enthusiastic use of fresh herbs, and she continues to explore new and exciting ways to feature them in sauces, preserves, infusions, pestos, cakes, breads, powders, salts, and — of course — everyday cooking.

Arete is a Master Gardener who believes that with the right plant, the right container and the right soil that you can grow delicious garden herbs! As an artist, she has an eye for color combinations that pop and has been known to turn almost anything – old purses, beat-up boots and recyled chairs into garden containers!
